Nimble problem solving on location
I had the opportunity to meet up with Scott Jones and Bill Reingruber, owners of Nevada Outdoor Living in Henderson, Nevada to make a portrait for the May/June issue of Patio & Hearth Products Report.
I'm usually really big on scouting out locations when researching for a portrait, in this case I had to go into Nevada Outdoor Living without knowing the lay of the land. Complete luck! Well...almost, It turns out that the store's offices had the perfect overlook of the showroom however there's this hideous railing killing the view. That overlook was too tempting to give up on, to reduce the railing's yuck factor and maximize the view I knew I needed to get high, so I grabbed a step ladder.
I went with a simple lighting setup to give Scott and Bill a settle but sculpted pop from the dim balcony and showroom floor. A Nikon SB-700 speedlight from camera left bounced out of a 45" umbrella.
